Barbara has been providing professional electrology and skin care services in Topeka since 1980. She believes that continuing education is essential to providing safe, effective treatments and has attended professional education courses every year since 1982.

Kansas Licensed Electrologist

Barbara was licensed by the Kansas Board of Cosmetology in 1980 and began practicing both esthetics and electrology. Over the years, she has continued to expand her knowledge of permanent hair removal and skin care through ongoing education and professional training.

Barbara is also the only Certified Professional Electrologist (CPE) in Topeka. The CPE designation is awarded by the International Board of Electrologist Certification to practitioners who achieve qualifying examination scores and maintain their certification through continuing education.

Skin Care Background

After completing cosmetology school in 1980, Barbara became one of the first licensed estheticians in Topeka. She completed Edith Serei training through Ultissima Beauty Institute and has continued her education with the Conservatory of Esthetics in Chicago, GlyMed Plus, Visual Changes, and Le Mieux.

Supporting the Profession in Kansas

Barbara is a founding member of the Kansas Association of Professional Electrologists (KAPE) and currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer.

Throughout her career, she has worked to strengthen the electrology profession in Kansas by:

Helping establish electrologist licensing in Kansas in 1986
Testifying before state committees to improve sanitation regulations
Supporting updates to Kansas cosmetology laws
Serving as a subject matter expert for Kansas licensing examinations
Joining the Electrology Education Coalition Research Committee in 2025 to support peer-reviewed research

Professional Leadership

Barbara has been an active member of the American Electrology Association (AEA) since 1990.

From 1998 through 2013, she served as Chair of the Infection Prevention Standards Committee, working alongside the CDC and APIC to revise national Infection Prevention Standards. During that time, she also presented continuing education programs for electrologists throughout the United States and Japan.
